For many of the children attending the Playgroup, this will be their first time away from home. In the Playgroup program, we start the journey toward independence. Early in the program children learn about behavior expectations, following rules and appropriate behavior based on good choices in an environment that is safe and caring with teachers who are committed to lovingly, but firmly guiding them on their journey.
The daily routine starts with a morning meeting, sharing the activities for the day, talking about weather, the calendar and theme for the week. The mornings are spent singing songs, reading books, doing arts and crafts and having a snack in the classroom. On some days there is a “Community Time” when the Playgroup children come “play” with the Preschoolers. They have an opportunity to explore toys and activities of their choice in classrooms they will occupy the next year. The children go to Music/God is Good Time and Move It classes each week with special teachers. They will also go on the playground every day weather permitting.
There are also many special events throughout the year including a petting zoo with pony rides, Henrico County Fire Safety Program with a chance to climb aboard a real fire truck, Dr. Suess week with mystery readers, Pajama Day, a Leprechaun Hunt and Pumpkin Party! The Playgroup children participate in our Christmas Pageant and End of the Year program. Field trips are not planned for the Playgroup.
Our children learn to say grace at snack time and lunch. They learn Bible songs and stories as they apply to the weekly lesson and during holidays.
Teachers encourage parental involvement whenever possible. There are many opportunities to volunteer, whether it be in the classroom or at events.
